We carry it around with us every day. We use it to do our daily math problems. We use it to wake us up.
It’s our flashlight, media player, camera, and map. I’ve heard you can even use it to speak to people.
But for all you think it can do, your iPhone can do much more. Why not see how you can get even more out of your most versatile tool and favorite toy?
Check out these cool things to do with your iPhone that you may not have known it is capable of.
Keep Your Private Photos… Private
It’s the close call almost everyone has.
You’re showing friends pictures from your most recent vacation, swiping away, and then it happens. A picture you forgot about that is meant for you and your significant other’s eyes only comes into view. Quickly you swipe right..left..right..right..no left! in a panic to get the photo offscreen.
Rather than slowly swiping from image to image with anxious care the next time you want to show friends some photos, why not just keep the private ones private?
One of the very important cool things you can do with your iPhone is to hide these sensitive photos.
All you have to do is go to your photos, select as many images as you wish, select to Share, and then select to Hide the given photos. From there the selected images will be accessible only by an album labeled “Hidden” in your Albums screen. They will remain concealed from your moments, years, and collections views.
Of course, there are plenty of apps that also allow you to perform this important function.
Give Your Speakers a Boost
Sometimes you forget to bring your earphones along but you still want to listen to your favorite song. Still, the standard default speaker setting just doesn’t do the song justice.
Fortunately, Apple knows your dilemma and has provided help.
You can amp up your speaker output by going to your phone’s Settings, selecting Music, and then hitting the EQ playback settings option. This will take you to a screen that presents several speaker equalization options. Hit the “Late Night” option then play that favorite song and notice the difference.
Scan QR Codes Without an App
In days of recent past, a dedicated app was needed in order to scan QR codes with your iPhone.
No more. As of iOS 11, you can do so simply by using your camera.
This update now allows you to simply open up your Camera app and place the QR code within view of this. From there your iPhone will recognize that it is viewing a QR code, scan the code, and then open a notification you can link to from the code.
Record Important Phone Calls with a Compatible App
An important work call discussing the terms of a deal or proving what your crazy ex said to you are two of many possible reasons you may want to be able to record phone calls.
There are many apps compatible with your iPhone which let you do this that can even go beyond simply recording a call. Some of these apps will even provide call transcription services so you can really review such important calls.
Just make sure you check the state and federal laws on consent first when it comes to the recording of phone calls.
Search Photos Based on Location or Object
Lost in the mix of your thousands of pictures from the last few years is one of your super rad sports car you used to have when you were single and childless.
Is there an easier way to show your friends that you used to be cool than scrolling through the endless grid of miniaturized pictures?
There is indeed.
Simply open your Photos app and click the search icon at the top right of the screen. From there you can type in the object in the photo you’re looking for or the location you think you were at when you took the picture.
You’ll notice that a category will show up with however many pictures you have of the type of object you searched for. For example, type in “car” and you’ll see a category labeled “Cars”. You should be able to find your Corvette picture here.
